Rockhampton Airport to simulate scale aerodrome emergency

Rockhampton Airport will conduct a mock emergency to challenge the Airport Emergency Plan this Wednesday, 16 July 2008 from 10.30am.

The exercise, ‘Outside the Gables’ will simulate a full scale emergency with an aeroplane staged to veer off the sealed runway.  The Airport and various Emergency Services including the Queensland Fire Service, the Queensland Ambulance Service and the Queensland Police Service will respond as per a real time emergency.

The staged accident scene will be adjacent to the secondary runway at Rockhampton Airport and residents should not be alarmed as a result of the emergency services attending the Airport at that time.

Rockhampton Regional Council tests its Airport Emergency Plan annually to ensure its effectiveness and identify any improvements or adaptations that might be necessary.

Media representatives are welcome to observe the exercise and must pre-register and attend a safety briefing on the day at 9.45am at the Airport Fire Station.  Anyone arriving after this time will not gain access due to safety reasons.
