Rockhampton City Council and Fitzroy Shire Council have established a joint Local Disaster Management Group to co-ordinate the areas prevention measures, preparedness, response and recovery for disaster occurring in our region.
The Disaster Management Act 2003 for Queensland, calls for Local Disaster Management Plans to include mitigation options to help manage risks associated with disasters and promote community involvement in the process.
A Natural Hazards Guide has recently been developed by the Rockhampton/ Fitzroy Disaster Management Group to assist residents to prepare for the upcoming cyclone season
The guide will be maintained on the websites for Rockhampton City Council and Fitzroy Shire Council and will be provided to new residents from both Councils Administration Buildings.
The Natural Hazards Guide has been provided with flooding/cyclone maps where possible, for reference purposes.
It also outlines preparations residents should make leading up to the cyclone season and during and after an event.
The guide highlights the need to provide your own Emergency Kit, listen to the media for warnings and advice and to follow the advice provided on evacuation procedures. |
