Rockhampton Zoo

The Rockhampton Zoo, nestled between Rockhampton's Botanic Gardens and Murray Lagoon, is the perfect venue for families to see native Australian fauna, as well as some exotic species. The zoo is open every day of the year between 8am and 5pm and entry is FREE!
Feeding times in the late afternoon are always a delight, especially for children. Educational tours are available for all ages.

Koalas
The completion of a new raised walkway through our koala exhibit provides a rare opportunity to sneak a close-up look at these laid back animals. The walkway meanders through the trees allowing you to view the koalas in their natural environment. The koalas just love to sleep, but at 3pm every day they make an extra special effort to greet visitors at feeding time. Our zookeepers are available during feeding time to answer any questions you may have about these wonderful animals.

Kangaroos
Our kangaroos and wallabies just love to greet you on your visit to Zoo. The Common Wallaroos, Agile Wallabies, Red Kangaroos and Eastern Grey Kangaroos freely roam around their grass paddocks and lie leisurely in the sun, soaking up their relaxing surrounds. Keep an eye out for the gorgeous young joeys, either in the pouch or close to their mothers.

Aviaries
The aviaries are home to many colourful birds including the vibrant King Parrots, Major Mitchell and Black Cockatoo. The main aviary has a walk-in raised pathway which leads you through the flight path of the birds, and from this height you can really appreciate the different varieties, with their detailed markings and vibrant colours.

Cassowary
Our male and female mating pair represent this rare and endangered Australian bird. These colourful, flightless birds will gracefully acknowledge your presence as they parade through the rainforest surrounds.

Primate Collection
Cassie and Ockie are our chimpanzees, and they just love to play and entertain our visitors. The chimps are brothers and their playful antics highlight their intelligent nature and vibrant personalities.
Cassie and Ockie will also provide an excellent opportunity for you to see how chimpanzees naturally gather and forage. Check the facial expression charts on display to see what mood they're in.

Feeding Times
Everyday at 3pm you are invited to join us in feeding the animals. Watch the playful antics of Cassie and Ockie, as they enjoy their daily feed, then gaze in awe as hundreds of colourful lorikeets make their daily flight from Murray Lagoon to the Zoo for feeding.
Be delighted by the koalas' daily descent down from their resting perches in the trees, and watch as they indulge in some fresh eucalyptus leaves. You can view the koalas feeding from a raised platform where you will be only metres from these gorgeous animals.

Opening Hours
The Rockhampton Zoo is open from 8am daily. Feeding times at the zoo start at 3pm.
