Events

Major annual events include the Rockhampton Agricultural Show in June, the Rocky Swap and Multicultural Fair in August, the Big River Jazz Festival in September, and Arts in the Park and Rocky Barra Bounty in October.
Major sports of National significance are contested seasonally, and Callaghan Park racecoursedraws large crowds, particularly during the Winter Racing Carnival.

Cultural and Social Activities

The population of the area supports a range of cultural and social activities including music, drama, arts, hobbies, speech, crafts and debating.
Rockhampton also has an extensive list of clubs and societies representing business, pleasure and community services.

 

Religion and Churches

All major denominations offer services in the area, including two cathedrals.

Sports and Hobbies

More than 70 different types of sports are played or followed in the City, including pony clubs, horse and greyhound racing, all codes of football, bowls, golf, water skiing, fishing, tennis, soccer, hockey, netball, basketball, cricket, martial arts, and a variety of other indoors ports.
The City has two Olympic sized swimming pools, including the Rock Pool Water Park.
Other sports facilities include a velodrome, water ski gardens, rowing venues, day and night tennis courts, and indoor sports venues.
The Police & Citizens Youth Club and CQU Sports Complex host a range of activities catering for all age groups.
