Rockhampton City Council

The elected Council consists of the Mayor and 10 Councillors representing separate divisions from within the city. In 2000, Rockhampton elected its first female Mayor in 137 years, Her Worship the Mayor Cr Margaret Strelow. The Council employs approximately 523 full time staff, 21 permanant part time, 52 temporary part time and over 224 casual staff. Rockhampton City Council is directly responsible for more than 110 different programs and activities within the city, ranging from the operation of the Art Gallery to the Zoo. The Council operates a Theatre and performing arts complex as well as an airport. The Council is directly responsible for the provision of numerous essential services to the community including aged care, child care, health and immunisation, libraries, to name but a few, and has an annual operating budget of approximately $75million.
